ChlorineChlorine has atomic number of 17 and symbolic sign as Cl. Chlorine can be spreadly found in form of salt or other compounds. It is halogen and presents in light green clear solution when it is in liquid state. In addition to chlorine, it is extremely hazardous to repiratory system. (Back) |

Only 60 ppm of chlorine gas could harm repiratory system and at the concentration of 1000 ppm, it is capable to kill the human. Because of those properties, Chlorine had been used in world war 1 as poison gas to attack enermy. In 2 January 1995, German army used chlorine gas in the war. As a result, 140 british soldiers were killed. Furthermore, in Redstar mission, British army also used chlorine gas to attack their enermy.

On the otherhand, in industrial usage, it is applied to kill germs in many industrial process. It is also used in municipal tap water to kill germs from water source. In additional to this application, water will be clearer after the process as less density of germs is present in pointed water
